HWM are pleased to have been awarded the demolition and site clearance contract with Acheston Construction for the Queen’s Head public house in Colden Common near Winchester Hampshire.
Our work began in March to secure the site, remove and recycle roof tiles prior to the main demolition in April. With site clearance well underway, the area is being prepared to construct a new build 60-bed care home complex for a main developer. The new development is said to be retaining some features to enable it to blend in with its surroundings.
An HWM team was dispatched to the site with two 14-tonne excavators and a Finley 960 crusher unit to generate hard core materials that will be required for the new development. HWM’s own waste handling and recycling specialists supported the removal of all waste from the site.
Popular with locals in the 1980’s and 90’s, the Queen’s Head pub was an icon for many with its convenient location at the junction of Portsmouth Road and Main Road, close to the Fishers Pond and Marwell Zoological Park. However, like so many larger public houses, it has found it difficult to survive with changes in people’s lifestyle choices, local competition and the devastating impact of the pandemic on the leisure industry.
