Fareham Borough Council has officially opened the new surface car park on Osborn Road, replacing the outdated multistorey structure.
HWM Group proudly took on the project, awarded by Neilcott Construction, which included the demolition of the old multistorey car park and the construction of a modern, user-friendly surface car park.
Neilcott, already working closely with Fareham Borough Council on the new Fareham LIVE theatre and arts centre, extended their efforts to enhance parking areas, creating a safer and more accessible space.
Demolishing the multistorey car park in a bustling town centre wasn’t easy. But with HWM Group's demolition and civil engineering expertise, the "Lift Slab" structure was meticulously modelled, ensuring a safe and efficient removal. Impressively, 99 per cent of demolition materials were recycled, with crushed stone and concrete repurposed for backfill, minimising traffic movements and disruption.
The new car park, which began construction in January, is designed for today’s needs, offering 136 spacious bays and electric vehicle charging points. Alongside two nearby car parks, there are 26 accessible spaces. In total, over 1,400 Council-run parking spaces now serve Fareham town centre with more than 600 within walking distance of Fareham LIVE.
